Monday 3rd June 2024
After a couple of days of packing and loading the van up we set off for Folkestone. It was an OK journey but busy as usual around the M25. We arrived at the Premier Inn, Folkestone about 5pm and had a meal in the Brickfield Tavern.

Tuesday 4th June
We left the Premier Inn and arrived at the Eurotunnel Terminal about 7.15.am. We were booked on the 8.50.crossing but somehow we went straight to the boarding queue and got on a much earlier train! We arrived in France well ahead of our expected time and set off on our journey to the first stop over in Nancy Sud. We stopped twice on the way for breakfast and lunch, arriving in Ludres about 3.30.pm. We went to the Intermarche Supermarket to fill up with fuel before checking in at the Kyriad Nancy Sud Hotel where we have stayed before. We had a meal in the hotel restaurant which was OK.
Wednesday 5th June
We left the Kyriad Nancy Sud after breakfast and set off on today’s journey, the first part of which is through the “Parc naturel régional des Ballons des Vosges”. It is a very scenic route and we stopped for a coffee in the same town as last year – Saint Maurice Sur Moselle.

It was very busy around Mulhouse and Basel as usual. We collected the Swiss Vignette at the border before continuing on into Switzerland. We were then diverted by the sat nav over the Gotthard Pass instead of going through the tunnel which actually turned out to be a bonus. We had never gone this way before but it was very spectacular – lovely scenery and high up above the snow level! We didn’t expect that on this journey.

It was busy as usal on the road into Italy with some hold ups. We arrived at the Just Hotel about 6pm and after checking in we went to the restaurant for a pizza. We have stayed here before and the food is good but it was very busy and we had a long wait to get served.
