Week 2: 7 Dec to 13 Dec

I went for a run on Sunday and met Mel at the end at El Dulci Hogar Panaderia for a coffee as usual. Afterwards we drove to Corralejo and went to the hotel to collect some keys that a friend of Mel’s had left there. We then parked in the usual street but there was no wind so we just walked along the seafront. We sat at a café, had coffee and chatted to a French couple with a very young baby. Then we drove to Flag beach, parked up and chose a couple of sunbeds near the sea. We chilled out for a couple of hours, reading and listening to the waves. We stopped at Lidl on the way home for a few provisions and then headed back to Casa Mimar. Mel watched the final Grand Prix race and after tea (chicken curry) we watched the Strictly results.

I went for another run on Monday joining up a couple of routes I had already done. Met Mel again for a coffee at the usual place and then went back to Casa Mimar for breakfast, shower and getting ready to go to the beach. Another warm and sunny day with no clouds in the sky today. We drove to El Cotillo stopping off in Lajares for a drink at Los Pinchos bar which was very busy. We carried on to the beach at El Cotillo and had a relaxing couple of hours there. We came back to the apartment, had carbonara for tea and watched Strictly It takes Two, Start up and Night Manager.

Tuesday morning was very warm and sunny. Did some washing, had breakfast and showers; Mel did some work on our website. Messaged Carmen about the noise the water heater is making. Then we drove to Corralejo and Mel went to get something from his board to put on the board he is going to hire tomorrow. We had a coffee at Amore Maria and then drove to Lajares. We decided to have a look at Majanicho on the recommendation of Julian (next door). It is very much a surfers’ beach with large breaking waves. We stopped at a café “Agua Tikibar Lajares” on the way back for some lunch. We went back to the apartment afterwards and sat outside in the garden.

I went for a run on Wednesday morning (7km) and Mel met me at El Dulci Hogar for coffee and pastries. I messaged Carmen again to say the water heater was still making a noise, so she promised to get Lorenzo to come and look at it. We drove to the Line Up shop in Corralejo to pick up the board Mel was hiring for the next 16 days. We went to Waikiki Beach so Mel could try the board but there wasn’t a lot of wind, and it was a bit of a challenge to get out again. I had a message from Carmen to say Lorenzo was coming to look at the water heater and water pump. We got back to the apartment, and he arrived just after along with Neri (the cleaner) who had a key to the room where the pump is (outside). After several messages with Carmen she told us a new pump was needed and that Lorenzo would come at 7am tomorrow to fit it. But then he had to turn the water off so Mel had a quick shower, we filled a bucket and the kettle so we had some water for the evening.

Lorenzo was at the apartment the next morning and fitted the new pump, which seemed to solve the problem with the water heater. We went for a walk to a café in Villaverde and had a coffee and then back to El Dulce Hogar for a bocadillo with Jamon Serrano and queso de cabra (goat’s cheese). We booked a table at Restaurant El Moral for my birthday next week. Mel decided there wasn’t enough wind to go wing foiling so I put some washing in and we relaxed in the apartment for the afternoon.

I managed a run on Friday morning before the rain started and then we went to Corralejo. It was cloudy and cool, the rain came whilst we were there. Had a coffee and then decided to do the shopping whilst we were in town. So went to Lidl and Mercadona and then back to the apartment. Had some lunch and chilled out for the afternoon. We were going to go out in the evening for a meal but the weather was so awful we decided to stay in. It rained most of the night and was very windy – Storm Emilia had hit the Canaries.

Still raining Saturday morning and it rained all day so we had a day in!
