Manorbier

Beautiful weather and light traffic meant we had an excellent journey to Manorbier on Friday 13th September. We took a route via Bala and Aberystwyth to Pembrokeshire, stopping off in Aberystwyth to have a walk around and eat our sandwiches.

We arrived in Manorbier about 4.30.pm and easily found Tarr Farm Cottage from the instructions sent to us by Maggie, our Airbnb host.

Taking advantage of the weather we stretched our legs and went for a walk into the village and down to the beach enjoying a beautiful sunny day and listening to the waves. We had a meal at the Castle Inn on the way back.

On Saturday we ran the Colby Park Run which is an undulating 3 lap course through Colby Woodlands National Trust Park. It was a lovely morning and the conditions were perfect although the route was a tough one. We enjoyed a latte in the cafe afterwards before heading back to Manorbier.

In the afternoon we had a gentle walk along the coastal path to Swanlake Bay.

The following day, Sunday, we cycled to Carew to watch the Wales Ironman bike race. We cheered on the competitors who had already done a 2.5mile swim in the sea in Tenby as they powered their way around a hilly 112 miles cycle route and who would later be running a full marathon around the town. Amazing competition and massive achievement for those who completed it.

On Monday morning we ran along the lanes to Jameston and then we caught the bus from Manorbier to Tenby. The town was still buzzing with Ironman finishers and their supporters.

Mel ran a (very) hilly 13km to St Florence on Tuesday. Later we drove to Stackpole Quay, parked in the National Trust car park and then walked over Stackpole Head to Broadhaven beach and the Lilypad lakes. It was a lovely day, warm and sunny and a great variety of scenery on route.

We took the bus to Saundersfoot via Tenby on Wednesday and walked along the coastal path to Wiseman’s Bridge and Amroth. Another lovely sunny day with more spectacular views. We went back to Tenby and I had a crab sandwich.

We rode our bikes to Pembroke on Thursday following a route planned by Mel sticking to quiet lanes. We stopped at a cafe by the castle in Pembroke and enjoyed a large latte in the sunshine. It was an excellent route and we thoroughly enjoyed it, completing 38km in total.
