Week 1: 30 Nov to 6 Dec

On Sunday morning we quickly unpacked and Mel set up his wingfoil board. We then went to to the Panaderia Mi Dulce Hogar and had a pastry and coffee. It was very busy with lots of locals and we enjoyed the sociable atmosphere.

We went back to the apartment (which we are very pleased with – it is very clean, has everything you could need and in an excellent location) and loaded up the car. We met Dave and Sue on the road to Corralejo and followed them to the beach. We parked up and went to meet them and they showed us round the beach and town. We had a coffee with them and then we went to the Jet Surf place and paid for Mel to store his board and a wing there (55 Euros). We got the board and a wing and took them to there and hopefully this will work well for Mel. Then we went to do some shopping and left them to go wingfoiling.

We went to Lidl in Corralejo and did quite a big shop to set us up for our four week stay. We got some pastries as we had missed lunch and ate those when we got back. Later we had an omelette and watched Strictly from Saturday night and the results from tonight. Mel planned a running route for me for tomorrow.

On Monday I went for a run locally and managed to follow the route Mel had planned. It was mostly sunny and windy but I enjoyed it (7km). It was all on lanes and not on the main road which was good. Then we drove to Corralejo, met Dave & Sue on the road where we both parked and then walked to the beach. Mel and Dave went out on the water and Sue and I sat on the beach and watched. Mel ended up going on the rocks and damaged his foil but fortunately not himself. Dave & Sue are leaving tomorrow so they had to take their boards back to the hire shop.

We went to Mercadona to do a bit more shopping on the way back to Villaverde. We had a chicken tikka marsala curry for tea and then watched a film on Netflix (A House of Dynamite). But it wasn’t very good and we were both tired so we didn’t finish watching it and went to bed.

On Tuesday Mel drove us to the village La Oliva where Dave & Sue had been staying. It was very quiet but we had a walk around, went into the Mercado de las Tradiciones where there were artisan stalls selling a variety of local produce and spoke to the Tourist Information person. We then drove back to Villaverde and had a coffee at out local Panaderia Mi Dulce Hogar. We went to Corralejo but Mel decided not to go out so we came back home and had carbonara for tea.

On Wednesday I went for a run on our side of the main road and then across to the windmills. I finished at the Panaderia where Mel was waiting for me with a coffee.

Later we went to Corralejo and Mel went out wingfoiling. It was quite challenging to get out and on the foil as the waves were big and the wind was on shore. Afterwards we went to the Line Up shop and Mel arranged to hire a different board starting next week (recommended by Dave). We went to the Cafe Abuela Maria for a pizza later and ended up very full!

On Thursday we went to Corralejo in the morning and had a walk round the town including a coffee and croissant. It was very windy and wavey, lots of surfers out and lots of wingfoilers struggling to get out. Mel decided not to go out and after a walk along the beach we drove home, taking a quick look at Flag Beach on the way. I went to the local supermarket on the way and then did some washing. Had salmon for tea

There was no wind forecast for Friday so after I had done a run and met Mel for a coffee, we decided to go to El Cotillo. We parked up near the beach, had a coffee and sandwich and then sat on the beach for a couple of hours. Its a lovely beach, no wind and lots of sunshine.

Saturday 6th December – Mel’s birthday – no wind forecast and it was a bit cloudy at first but we went for a short walk to the Panaderia. By now the sun was shining and we sat outside to eat our breakfast – coffee and croissant for Mel and serrano ham sandwich and coffee for me. It was busy today as it is a national holiday in Spain (Constitution Day) and a Saturday too. We then walked back to the apartment, I did some washing and Mel did some Maths for Ella!
