Day 3

Today is our last day, we have to leave to go home tomorrow morning. The weather forecast is for wet and windy conditions, but we plan to visit an old favourite of ours (Newborough Forest) and also visit the National Trust’s Plas Newydd. We went a couple of years ago but had to cut it short because I was having trouble with my back and had trouble walking. It owes me (or do I owe it?).

Newborough Forest

We tend to use the large car park at the bottom near the beach. Marked on the map as Maes Parcio Ynys Llanddwyn and… You pay at an automatic toll booth on the way out. £2.00 today for an hour of two.

We’ve been several times, but this time I wanted to look at the possibilty of wing-foiling here. My conclusion is that it’s probably too far to carry the kit, especially if it’s windy, and there’s not much point if it’s not windy. Never mind. It was too good an opportunity to not have a little ramble through the forest, forgot about Strava (not always a bad thing – just don’t know where we’ve been), so I can only include a partial map. It’s a great place to walk and look out for wildlife (we were desparate to see some red squirrels), but, sadly, I only saw a couple of slugs and a few common birds today.

Plas Newydd

Thankfully this time I made it all the way round. Started in the cafe for a cream tea, always a good way to start anything. Then off down the hill to the main building. It’s full of amzing pictures and potraits, but I suppose the didn’t have cameras or mobile phones with cameras. Very interesting but follow the link for more information.
