Update 1st March 2014

We left La Manga on Wednesday 19th February and drove

to an overnight stop at San Rafael del Rio near to Peniscola. The journey was excellent, quiet roads, good weather and no problems.

We had wifi, electricity, showers and toilets and a very nice restaurant to have a meal at the stop over. There was a big parking area with about 12 motor homes there for the night and it wasn’t far from the A7. We would certainly stay there again.

imageThe next day we had another good journey staying on the AP7 toll road to Narbonne. We stayed over night at the aire in Narbonne opposite a Carrefour; it had electricity and water and there were again about 12 motor homes there. We did some shopping at the Carrefour and bought some pizzas for an easy tea.
imageOn Friday 21st February we drove to Valence again staying on the toll road, as it is quicker and easier (but expensive!). We checked out a couple of aires but they weren’t suitable for over night parking so we went to the campsite in Valence where we had stayed last year. There were several other motor homes there and the facilities were OK but being a campsite you pay more, but we didn’t have a choice. On Saturday morning we set off for Bourg St Maurice, filling up with gas and diesel on the way. There was a lot of traffic around Grenoble and on the road to Moutier so we didn’t arrive until early afternoon. By this time the reception was closed at Le Versoyen campsite and we had to wait until 3pm to find out which pitch we had.

imageThere was no snow on the campsite unlike last year when it was covered. We parked up on pitch C22 which is a long enough to fit our motor home, hooked up to the electricity, bought our first lift passes, put our skies in the ski room and did some washing. We spent the next day filling up with water; shopping etc so didn’t ski although it was a nice sunny day.
We had two great days on the slopes on Monday and Tuesday; the snow was excellent and it was sunny with blue skies. Dana and Curtis arrived on Monday evening – we met them last year – Dana unfortunately had an injury then and had to be flown home but she is back skiing now so that was good to know. We didn’t ski on the Wednesday as we were tired and it was overcast and snowing in the afternoon. We didn’t ski for the next three days as the weather was cloudy, overcast or snowing but hopefully this will mean that the snow on the slopes is even better for the rest of our time here.
We went to the cinema on Thursday to see ‘Philomena’ which was supposed to be in English but it was in French! That made it interesting! We still enjoyed watching it although we didn’t understand all the conversations. We went into Bourg on Saturday and it was market day. We had a coffee at a local café and bought some chicken, eggs, cheese and a giant blueberry muffin. We have planned to go skiing with Ed & Cas (next door) and Peter (who we met last year) on Sunday so we are hoping for a sunny day.
