La Manga: January 25

Wednesday 1st January 2025

After very heavy rain, thunder and lightning during the night last night we woke up to a dry, sunny morning. I went for a run (11km) and Mel went for a bike ride (25km), both staying on tarmac knowing from experience that any off-road tracks would be muddy. The cafe and shop were closed today being a bank holiday; we stayed in the chalet and Mel put a powerpoint presenation together about Wales for our session tomorrow with Manuela (unfortunately she cancelled it later).

Thursday 2nd January 2025

We cycled on the non-ebikes along La Manga strip to Tomas Maestre port where we stopped for caffe con leche y tosada con tomate at the Falua cafe. We had visited the port in 2012 on my birthday going on the little motor bike we had then. We went a bit further to a view point where we hadn’t been before. We cycled back along the strip a total of 40km.

Friday 3rd January 2025

We drove to Mazaron again today and had a coffee on the seafront and lunch at the Wok Restaurant. On the way we stopped at the garage on the RM32 to fill the van up with diesel. It was a lovely sunny day and we enjoyed the drive and the refreshment stops.

Saturday 4th January 2025

I went for a run (10km) and Mel went for a long bike ride (49km). It turned into a nice sunny day so I did 2 lots of washing.

Sunday 5th January 2025

We went for a bike ride to Cabo de Palos via Mar de Crystal and Los Belones. We had a coffee and pastry at Busquets before cycling back to the campsite. We attempted to cycle on an off-road path on the other side of the dual carriage way which was a mistake as it was still muddy after the rain last week. So Mel spent the afternoon cleaning and adjusting the bikes! We spoke to Caroline & Minnie before we left (Minnie’s first birthday tomorrow) and Laura, William, Layla & Ella later.

Monday 6th January 2025

It was very windy all last night and this morning it was cloudy and raining a little. I did my usual Monday morning on-line Yoga session with Alex and then we just stayed at the chalet. Mel spent time on my gears again but Summer phoned to say Lynn was in hospital poorly.

Tuesday 7th January 2025

The weather was back to normal today, sunny and dry so I went for a run (8.5km) and Mel did a bike ride (35km). Manuela came at 1pm and we shared the Powerpoint presentation we had prepared about Wales. She helped us with some of our translations and pronunciation and then we did some quite challenging questions and answers in Spanish. We had a walk to reception later and booked our chalet for November/December 2025 and then walked to the beach but Mel’s knee was very sore.

Wednesday 8th January 2025

We went to La Zenia shopping centre and bought some stuff for the bikes and a top and leggings for me from Decathlon. We went to the Wok Centre for lunch, had a look around C&A and then did some food shopping at Mercadona. It was a sunny day but a cool wind.

Thursday 9th January 2025

I went to Pilates and Mel did a bike ride, meeting me afterwards for a coffee and croissant at the campsite restaurant. It was a warm, sunny day and Mel did some more work on nthe bikes. I changed the bed and made leek and potato soup. The washing machines were out of order so not able to do the washing. Some of the old chalets behind us were moved out today. Mel did some Maths with Ella later.

Friday 10th January 2025

We both went for a bike ride – El Elgar, La Union and Los Belones. Stopped for coffee and toast in Los Belones, as usual. Still no wind for Mel to go out on the water.

Saturday 11th January

I went for a run (8km) and Mel did an off-road mountain bike ride (15km). The day started off cloudy and grey but the sun came out later. Managed to do two lots of washing in the machine on I block as the ones on L Block still not working. We went to the Eurospar supermarket in Cabo in the afternoon to get some bacardi for Tim & Gareth and chocs for Jill.

Sunday 12th January

Another run for me (8.66km) and a walk for Mel (5.84km). There was a little wind so Mel went wingfoiling later.

Monday 13th January

I did my usual Yoga Zoom session with Alex in the morning followed by a bike ride to Cabo with Mel. We stopped at Busquets for coffee and toast and then had to rush back for our Spanish lesson at 12 with Manuela. It was another cold but sunny day; it does seem to have been a lot cooler this year. Mel had to clean the bikes later as we had gone through some mud on the way back from Cabo.

Tuesday 14th January

I went for a run (8km) and it was cold! Mel went straight to the beach and out on the water after a coffee with me. He had a few good sessions with his 6m wingfoil today. I took sandwiches to the beach for lunch so that Mel didn’t have to come back to the chalet until he had finished on the water.

Wednesday 15th January

Another cold but sunny day. We went to Parc Mediterraneo Cartegena to do some shopping at Decathlon & Carrefour.

Thursday 16th January

I went to Pilates and Mel went for bike ride. Again it was a bit cold today and windy.
