Week 3: 14 Dec to 20 Dec

On Sunday 14th December I went for a run and Mel met me at Mi Dulce Hogar Panaderia as usual. We had a coffee and pastry and bought some bread for lunch. After a shower we decided to drive into Corralejo for lunch. The weather had started sunny and dry if a little cool but now it started to rain again. We parked up in Corralejo and walked along to the old town. The sun came out and we stopped at La Marina café for lunch (Mel had a burger, I had salad). There were a few wingers on the water but not really windy enough for Mel so he decided not to bother going out. We came back to the apartment and had a rest followed by some TV including Strictly results. We had cheese and ham sandwiches for tea.

Monday and Tuesday were very mixed weather days. Not good conditions for Mel to go wing foiling and wet enough to put me off running. We went to the Panaderia for coffee in the mornings and in the evening on Tuesday we walked to the Gastro Escanfraga in Villaverde for a meal. Mel had mushrooms followed by pork fillet, I had tomatoes and cheese followed by fish. Both were quite nice and it was a very friendly place.

On Wednesday we had showers and drove to Corralejo. Mel went to check on his board at Jet Surf and then we went to fill up the car with fuel. After that we drove to Lajares, parked on the car park and had a coffee at the Coco Café. We went to the Aloa Vera shop and I bought some body lotion and then we had a walk around the town. We went back to the Coco Café for lunch – very nice – Mel had bacon, avocado and poached egg on sour dough bread, I had smoked salmon and feta on sour dough. We went back to the apartment after and read etc for the afternoon. The weather was very mixed again – one minute sunshine, the next rain!

Thursday 18th December (my birthday) started with a run for me to La Oliva and a short loop round the village for Mel. After showers we drove to Corralejo, parked up and went to That’s Amore café for coffee and a bocadillo. We walked down to the beach and then went to get the car to park closer to Jet Surf and the beach. Fortunately, we got a place quite close and although there wasn’t a lot of wind Mel went out on the water with a 6m wing. He only stayed out for about 45 minutes in total so not the best but at least he gave it a go. I sat on the beach and watched him; it was a bit warmer today, so it was quite comfortable. In the evening, we walked to El Moral restaurant where we had booked a table for my birthday meal. I had stuffed mushrooms and Mel had fried cheese for starters and we both had pork fillet with Mexican sauce for main. Both were very nice. It was quite a chilly evening so we were glad of our jackets. When we got back we watched ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ on BBC, Rory McIlroy won.

On Friday morning we went for a short run together around the village stopping at the Panaderia for a coffee at the end. After showers we drove to Corralejo to do some shopping at Lidl and Mercadona. When we got back we had lunch and sat outside in the sun in the afternoon. (No wind today)

On Saturday morning we drove to Lajares to look around the market and see Julian and Joanna (our neighbours) performing their juggling. They were doing some activities with the children so it was fairly low key but we had a chat with them.

We had a coffee at the Coco café and then drove to Corralejo. We had another coffee at La Marina and then some lunch at “That’s Amore”. Mel went out on his wing foil for just over an hour and had a reasonable session. I sat behind a rock and read my book. In the evening we watched the Strictly Come Dancing final.
